Peter Navarro Says Anthony Fauci Has 'Blood of Over 4 Million People on His Hands'

Former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro suggested Dr. Anthony Fauci has the "blood" of more than 4 million people on hands and said he needs to be removed from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Navarro spoke to Steve Bannon's War Room Pandemic podcast on Monday and discussed the theory that COVID originated in a lab in Wuhan, China. This claim hasn't been proven. Speaking in front of an image of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), Navarro once again called Fauci, who is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the "godfather" of the pandemic. NIAID is part of the NIH.

Navarro pointed to the image behind him and said: "Tony Fauci, if that [COVID] came from that lab, is the godfather of this pandemic and he has the blood of over 4 million people on his hands." That figure refers to the global death toll from COVID, which now stands at 4,162,304, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). "He needs to be out, out, out of the National Institutes of Health," Navarro said. Navarro, who served as Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy during former President Donald Trump's administration, previously accused Fauci of funding gain-of-function research in a lab in Wuhan and said COVID originated in that lab. Fauci, the nation's leading infectious diseases expert, has repeatedly denied that the NIH funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan. However, the claim has won renewed attention in recent days after Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) suggested Fauci had lied to Congress about the matter and wrote to the Department of Justice seeking an investigation. Fauci denied ever lying under oath in a combative exchange with Paul and later told MSNBC he considered the senator's comments to be "inflammatory" and "slanderous."

Fauci has previously called Navarro's claims about him being the "father" of COVID "bizarre." In an interview in April with Fox News' Neil Cavuto he addressed Navarro's claim directly. "You know, Neil, I've been a symbol to them of what they don't like about anything that has to do with things that are contrary to them, anything outside of their own realm," Fauci said. "It's a little bit bizarre I would say ... Peter Navarro saying I created the virus?" Fauci went on. "Isn't that weird? Come on." Navarro told Bannon's podcast on May 25 that Fauci was a "sociopath" who would be "gone" in 90 days. "Tony Fauci is the father of the virus," Navarro said at the time. "It came from that lab." Newsweek has asked NIAID for comment.
