First Look: Klean Kanteen Rise Collection Mug and Tumbler

A newly announced Rise Collection from Klean Kanteen features drinkware made from 90-percent post-consumer recycled stainless steel. The items will come in five different sizes and variations including the Rise Lowball, Rise Wine Tumbler, Rise Tumblers in 16- and 26-ounce sizes, and the Rise Mug. The cups, mugs and tumblers won't be released until January of 2023, but I had a first look and hands-on with a couple of them recently. Most of these new drinkware options also come with the new flip lid. It's splash- and spillproof and features an extra-large opening. It's meant to accommodate a wide range of drinking styles and be usable with straws. Klean Kanteen is surely most proud of this collection because of its use of recycled stainless steel. According to the company, this results in ​​a "50-percent reduction in Klean Kanteen's steel greenhouse gas emissions and 30-percent reduction in energy demand." But don't discount the collection's dual-tone colors and the chip-resistant powder coating, which makes the drinkware look brilliant. I got my hands on the Rise Mug and 26-ounce Rise Tumbler to see what you could expect when they are released next year.

Rise Mug

The Rise Mug has a capacity of 14 ounces and features a handle. In photos, the handle looks like it might be plastic, but it's the same metal used for the rest of the mug. At first glance, it's the mug in the collection that stands out to me and that I think I will get the most use out of. It has the most distinct look, and I'm a fan of its style. Of course, I haven't tried all the collection's drinkware options yet. I found the handle to be comfortable. The mug itself is wide and spacious, so it would be hard to hold without one. I only tried the mug with a few different drinks like coffee and water, but it should work well for nearly anything you want to use it for. I think this particular offering could be a great modern-day camp cup. The Rise Mug is easy to clean because it's relatively shallow and has a wide opening without the lid. I think the flip lid adds to the overall aesthetic. The lid's tab is slightly off-center to give it some character. The tab folds flat and tucks under a part of the lid that can also be used for leverage when pulling the entire lid off the mug.

Rise Tumbler 26-Ounce

The Rise Tumbler features the same dual-tone color design as the other drinkware and comes in two capacities. The 26-ounce option doesn't feel overly large, even though it can hold a fair amount of liquid. It didn't fit in my car's cup holder so, personally, I would probably opt for the 16-ounce version. But having the two capacities offers different use possibilities. The same flip lid is present on the Rise Tumbler. Overall, this product is straightforward and probably the boring one of the bunch. That's not to say it's bad, but looking at pictures, you can easily imagine what it's like to use. I did like the feel of its powder coating, but it's no different from the finish on already existing Klean Kanteen products.

Coming in 2023

The design of the new Rise Collection is instantly attractive. Better yet, the functionality and feel of the drinkware I tried are also solid. Each of the items has double-walled construction with vacuum insulation so drinks can stay at their desired temperature longer. The line will be available in blue, green, white and red colors. So far, I think blue looks the best after seeing it in person. I have a feeling this collection will be very popular. I admit I don't understand why Klean Kanteen announced the products so early, nearly six months ahead of release. I can't even add these to my Christmas list this year.
