Are YouTube, Snapchat, Discord Down? US, Northern Europe Hit With Social Media Outages

Are YouTube and Snapchat down, not working? Entire regions of U.S. affected by social media outage.

Entire regions of the United States lost access to YouTube (and related Google media products), Snapchat and Discord Sunday around 3 p.m. EST as thousands of people took to other social media outlets to vent their frustration. Angry and confused video streamers and Snapchat users took to Twitter and Reddit Sunday after both the Google service and the disappearing video app went blank across the East Coast and much of the wider United States and parts of Northern Europe. According to Down Detector, a website which tracks when platforms stop working, a massive spike occurred in YouTube and Snapchat complaints pouring into the service around 3 p.m. Sunday. Users reported being unable to load Snapchat messages on the app or the ability to play videos on YouTube. The main homepage of YouTube.com is also currently not working.

"Snapchat and YouTube are down?! If Twitter falls the apocalypse will start!" said one of thousands of tweets making light of the social media downtime on yet another social media platform. Thousands of Twitter and Down Detector users also reported outages or difficulty accessing Discord. The gaming community-targeted service appeared to go down at approximately the same time as the others. Google saw a spike in people reporting the page down aroudn 2:57 p.m. ET and YouTube users reporting being unable to log in on their accounts or watch videos since around 2:50 p.m. ET, according to Down Detector reports. Neither company has responded to the outages as of 4 p.m. ET.
