A video of a cruise passenger returning to his room has gone viral on TikTok, as heavy winds made it seem like a "tornado" had passed through it.
On November 5, user @beaubays20 posted the clip, which has since amassed 3.9 million views, showing the havoc winds had wreaked on his room. "I left my balcony door open on the cruise ship," the poster wrote in the video's text overlay.
"Guys, look at my room," he said in the video before opening the cabin door using a key card. As soon as he opens the door, the sound of the wind blowing can be heard in the background, and when he opens the door even wider, viewers can see a curtain flapping.
"A tornado really went through my room," the poster wrote in the caption.
Newsweek has contacted @beaubays20 for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
In 2023, cruise passenger volume reached 31.7 million, surpassing the pre-pandemic figure reported in 2019 by 7 percent, a 2024 report from the Cruise Lines International Association said.
The report also showed that the number of travelers new to cruises was on the rise—with 27 percent of cruisegoers in the past two years saying they were new to cruises, marking a 12 percent increase from the year before.
Cruise capacity is forecast to increase by 10 percent between 2024 and 2028, "as cruise lines make ongoing, concrete progress in pursuit of net-zero emissions by 2050," the report added.
'The Gales of November'
Viewers on TikTok were stunned and amused by the scene in the viral clip, with several commenting about the panic it might have caused.
"I'M CRYING that's why they tell you not to do this. When we went our ac was broke so we had to keep the door open," a user wrote, adding, "I almost lost my arm."
Another said, "Never leave the balcony door open."
"The Gales of November came early!!!" a user commented, while another wrote, "The curtain has me hollering."
"I would be panicking that my stuff somehow flew out," a commenter said.
Some viewers said they would have welcomed the breeze as a sleeping aid, with one writing, "I would sleep so good with that wind."
"That's that good sleeping wind I've always dreamed of," another added.
"These are the gusts I try to get my fan to recreate while I sleep," a user said.
A commenter wrote, "That sleep would've felt amazing." Another viewer agreed, writing, "That will be the best sleep ever."
