A video of a mom letting out a sigh and appearing annoyed while being informed of a flight delay on a plane flown by her own son has delighted users on TikTok.
The video was shared by @molly.glynnejones and has amassed 1.4 million views since it was posted on July 17. According to a location shared with the clip, the moment was captured in London.
A note overlaid on the clip said: "The most British reaction is mom hearing her new pilot son over the [PA system] and giving sass about the flight delay."
The footage shows the mom in her plane seat making gestures of what appears to be annoyance, letting out a sigh at one point, while the pilot makes an announcement over the plane's loudspeaker.
The pilot is heard saying "What we're trying to do is start one engine," before later saying "we are clear to start one engine, so we're gonna be doing that right now," after which the mom is shown giving a look of approval to the camera.
A caption shared with the post says "It's the approving nod at the end haha."
In June, there were a total of 50,697 air carrier delays, 38,325 national aviation system delays and 6,374 extreme weather delays reported among 10 major U.S. airlines, according to the latest Air Travel Consumer Report published in August by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
The DOT notes: "Airlines are required to have and adhere to assurances that they will not allow aircraft to remain on the tarmac for more than three hours for domestic flights and four hours for international flights without providing passengers the option to deplane, subject to exceptions related to safety, security, and air traffic control related reasons.
"An exception also exists for departure delays if the airline begins to return the aircraft to a suitable disembarkation point to deplane passengers by those times. The department investigates extended tarmac delays," the DOT adds.
'The Sigh'
TikTok users were amused by the mom's reaction in the viral clip.
Marie Hayes696 said "She seems like a character."
Becca Fagan said "Hahahaha love her" while @shinyhappysar55 noted "the SIGH."
METALDETECTINGWILTSHIRE wrote "Hope she thought her money was well spent."
Miranda Wylde said "Give him a break mum." The original poster replied "Hahaha ikr [I know right]. nah she cried tears of a proud mother I've just done her dirty here lol."
Jake noted "if I was him I would have told everyone 'my mum is sitting on seat 10C, wave at her and say 'hi mum' if you pass her."
The original poster replied: "Hahaa yes this sort of thing usually happens! He comes out and chats to us and has champagne sent back. It's all very lovely."
